Lupe Fiasco Forming Rap Supergroup with the Cool Kids, Wale and J. Cole?

Published Apr 9, 2010

When it comes to Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco, there's usually a lot more talk about projects than the actual projects themselves. Since releasing his sophomore album The Cool in 2007, the rapper has been announcing and backpedalling his own retirement constantly, all while promising a trio of new records. Then, there's CRS, his supposed project with Kanye West and Pharrell Williams, and Japanese Cartoon, the indie pop band he might have been fronting. In other words, the announcement of any new Lupe project is one we take with a grain of salt.

Nonetheless, Fiasco has suggested the formation of a new hip-hop supergroup called All City Chess Club. In a series of Tweets on April 2, Fiasco announced that the All City Chess Club had been recording. He detailed the project as a veritable who's who of emerging hip-hop artists, saying that contributing to the project will be Asher Roth, B.o.B, the Cool Kids, Charles Hamilton, Blu, Diggy Simmons (from Run's House), J. Cole, Wale and himself.

While it's unclear exactly what this team will be doing together, Hip Hop DX reports that All City Chess Club will be teaming up for a remix of Lupe's "I'm Beamin'," though no release date has been announced.

Fiasco's third solo album Lasers is also said to be coming out this year, but we won't hold our breath.
