The Ludes

BY Erica LeducPublished Dec 1, 2004

The Ludes are accessible pop music. They have a very upbeat sound, which is somewhere along the lines of T-Rex, the Cars and Frank Black and the Catholics. Singer Tim Beresford even sounds a little like Mr. Black himself. There is a wide range of diversity ranging from seductive beats to straight-ahead pop, and they even sound a little lounge-y at times. Some examples of this include "The Last One Million,” which is reminiscent of the Velvet Underground’s "Who Loves the Sun,” and "I'm A Lover,” which sounds like the (International) Noise Conspiracy. There are even some strange little intervals that would catch you off guard if they weren’t so darn soothing. Styles seem to jump back and forth, almost ricocheting off of each other.
