Lucius have announced their new album Second Nature, arriving April 8 on Dine Alone/Mom + Pop Music. Along with the announcement, they've also shared a video for Second Nature's first single, the psychedelic "Next to Normal."
Recorded in Nashville and co-produced by Brandi Carlile and Dave Cobb, the 10-track record features backing vocals from both Carlile and Sheryl Crow on "Dance Around It."
Second Nature is described as a "shared reflection," tracing singer and songwriters Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe's journeys through the waters of motherhood, divorce and unplanned career pauses. About the album, Wolfe said:
It is a record that begs you not to sit in the difficult moments, but to dance through them. It touches upon all these stages of grief—and some of that is breakthrough, by the way. Being able to have the full spectrum of the experience that we have had, or that I've had in my divorce, or that we had in lockdown, having our careers come to a halt, so to speak.
I think you can really hear and feel the spectrum of emotion and hopefully find the joy in the darkness. It does exist. That's why we made Second Nature and why we wanted it to sound the way it did: our focus was on dancing our way through the darkness.
In addition to the album announcement, Lucius have also announced a headlining North American tour that'll take them through Toronto this spring. General tickets go on sale Friday, January 14 with pre-sale starting Wednesday, January 12.
