Canadian indie vets Lowest of the Low have detailed their seventh studio album Over Years and Overnight, which arrives May 2 via Sonic Envy. The Toronto rockers have also shared the record's first singles "The Only One I See and "Wave."
"It's the only one on the record that's got a reggae/ska vibe," Lowest of the Low's frontman and principal songwriter Ron Hawkins shared of "The Only One I See." "We were doing much more of that on the last record. It's about a person saying to their partner, 'Among the billions of people in the world, you're the only one see.'"
The new LP also marks a new milestone for the rock lifers, as the first three of its 11 songs were co-written by all members.
According to a release, Over Years and Overnight sees the band "reflecting on the passage of time, the evolution of ideas, and the enduring power of connection." The record's title is borrowed from Charles Yu's novel Interior Chinatown, and captures how "success can feel both like a slow burn and an overnight explosion." Hawkins added, "How did the band go from a decade of searching for a scene to suddenly breaking out in the early '90s? Well... over years and overnight."
The Toronto rockers have also detailed a Canadian tour in support of the new record. Kicking off on April 24 at Montreal's Barfly as their only Quebec date, the band will make their way through Ontario, hitting the stage in Ottawa and Oshawa. They will play a hometown show at Toronto's Concert Hall on May 3, a day after the record's release, before continuing on to London, Windsor, Peterborough, St. Catharines and Fergus. The tour will conclude on June 6 at the Sanctuary Centre for the Arts in Ridgeway, ON. They will be joined by Dany Laj and the Looks on all dates.
