Last year, convicted pedophile and former Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins was stabbed and beaten in prison by three inmates. Now, details from the incident have been shared by a fellow inmate, who claims the attack happened with a "sharpened toilet brush."
The information was shared with authors Jonathan Levi and Emma French, who wrote the book Inside Wakefield Prison: Life Behind Bars in the Monster Mansion. The attack was allegedly over a £900 drug debt, and the disgraced musician and shank magnet has been reportedly buying protection and friends since the incident.
"He is hated by many, but as [HMP Wakefield, the prison where Watkins is being held] is mixed, i.e. VPs and high-level gangsters, drug importers and organized crime, they just take money off him for his safety," Levi and French said [via The Mirror]. "He has spent thousands on protection. The recent stabbing was a reminder that he needs to pay. He took an amount of spice off a prisoner with a prison value of £150."
They continued: "Because it was Watkins, he was told he owed £900. He was high and refused to pay; therefore, he was stabbed in the side using a sharpened toilet brush."
Watkins is currently serving a 29-year sentence for charges including the rape of a child under the age of 13 and conspiracy to rape a baby. He received another 10 months in 2019 for possession of a mobile phone.
