Recorded by ex-members of the Hoods and Tell-Tale Hearts, Love’s Dead Leaves is a fine garage disc made notable by the efforts of producer Ebbot Lundberg (of Sweden’s Soundtracks of Our Lives). Vibes, farfisa and harpsichord contribute significantly to pretty, psych-pop ditties like “Paint it Gold,” “Thursday’s Child” and “Flying Up Into the Floor.” On the more rocking side “Insecurity Smasher,” “Not the Same Girl” and “Ballroom of the Unaware” reveal the Loons’ love of zitty punk. “Another Mile Away” ends the album in an appropriately trippy, semi-grandiose fashion. Far out, man.
