Longwave

The Strangest Things

BY Matt CharltonPublished May 1, 2003

Sounding like a Strokes fronted collaboration with Doves, Longwave combines influences that go back about as far as unexpired bread. Still, while this may pose enough creditability questions to make Creed’s roots look deep, it would be very difficult to say anything negative about their work on The Strangest Things. Its raunchy, grinding space pop merges genres seamlessly, constantly keeping catchy vocals afloat above intricate soundscapes. While most of the music industry is dressed in leather coats and playing "I Wanna Be Your Dog,” (which is still much better than wearing unbuttoned dress shirts and singing "Please Don’t Go Girl”) Longwave has provided an innovative and beautiful alternative.
