Long-Awaited New Album By Gentleman Reg Out in February

BY Brock ThiessenPublished Jan 14, 2009

Following a frustratingly long wait, Gentleman Reg is finally ready to give us his first album in five years. Courtesy of the Toronto songwriter's new label home, Arts & Crafts, his Jet Black is set to hit February 24, marking the pop-loving artist's fourth album overall and "Reg's strongest and most diverse collection to date," so says Arts & Crafts.

The 11-track follow-up to much-adored 2004 effort Darby & Joan by the sometime Broken Social Scenester/Hidden Cameras member was recorded with producer Dave Draves (Kathleen Edwards, Howe Gelb) at his Little Bullhorn Studio in Ottawa and in usual Reg fashion, boasts more than a few guest stars. Appearing on Jet Black are the Constantines' Bry Webb, Land Of Talk's Liz Powell, former Organ front-woman Katie Sketch and Great Lake Swimmers and Hylozoists drummer Greg Millson.

If you're out for an advance taste of Jet Black, album tracks "You Can't Get It Back" and "We're in a Thunderstorm" are currently up at Reg's MySpace page, and he has a show lined up January 27 in Kingston, ON, if you live in that neck of the woods.

More live dates are expected to fall around the album's February due date but for now here are the few lined up so far, as well as the tracklisting for Jet Black.

1. "Coastline"
2. "To Some It Comes Easy"
