Listen to Jon Bryant's New EP 'PsychIdyllic Salutations'

It's the Halifax-born musician's follow-up to earlier 2021 EP 'Back to Love'

Halifax-born, Vancouver-based singer-songwriter Jon Bryant returns today with his latest EP PsychIdyllic Salutations via Nettwerk. (No, not Jon Hopkins' Music for Psychedelic Therapy — but close.)

The EP follows Bryant's 2019 LP Cult Classic chronicling his experience in the NXIVM cult, and early-2021 release Back to Love. Led by the buoyant single "Candied Tangerines," the five-song collection presents the most wide-ranging work of the musician's career thus far, delving further into funk-tinged R&B than ever before.

Of the project, the artist said in a statement:

The EP started as a meandering trip into uncharted waters. When writing, I felt like a sailboat — I had no plan or vision. I'd show up floating in an ocean of sounds, throw up my sail and let the creative winds take me wherever they wanted me to go, picking up rhythm and melodies along the way.

For me, [
PsychIdyllic Salutations] is a stream-of-consciousness wrapped up in a blanket of melodramatic sensibilities, soaring ethereal arcs and emotional vibrations. Or maybe it's something your friend heard playing over the loudspeakers at Rona, Shazamed and then told you to check out over waffles at brunch.

Between Bryant's contemplative storytelling and dream-pop sensibilities, "psychidyllic" does indeed seem to be a fitting adjective. If we're lucky, maybe it'll be 2022's word of the year and we'll all live cozily ever after in sea-foam green apartments.
