Lily Frost

Situation

Lily Frost has been a fixture of the Vancouver music scene for the past decade, releasing seven CDs, either by herself or as a member of the Colorifics and Mimosa. These days, however, she is making Toronto her home and it is there that she caught the ear of a new record company who liked what they heard. Situation is actually an expanded version of an EP that was initially released earlier this year and the five new songs (including one hidden track) do little to change the mood of the record. The laid-back vibe is definitely easy on the ears, and she seems to have found the perfect style for her poppiest pop songs. Most of the new songs were recorded with her now-husband Jose Contreras (of By Divine Right) in their Toronto apartment and continue the dreamy, summery mood of the earlier songs combined with a strong Latin influence. It is always a risky move to mess with something that worked just fine, but Frost’s gamble has paid off and the new and improved version of Situation is probably the strongest record she’s made in an already impressive career.
