Lil Wayne Documentary Set For 2009

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jul 9, 2008

Lil Wayne has had a pretty huge year in 2008 with Tha Carter III, which sold the most records in its first week of release of any record since 2005, and continued to cement his status as the "best rapper alive.”

Still, 2009 might prove just as big when hip-hop filmmaker QD3 (born Quincy Jones III) releases his Lil Wayne documentary, The Carter. The film promises a look at Wayne’s early life and notorious work ethic, alongside interviews with Wayne’s close family and friends. Adam Lough, the film’s director, previously won an Independent Spirit Award for his graffiti drama Bomb the System.

"We at Young Money are thrilled to be working with QD3 on production of The Carter,” Cortez Bryant, Lil Wayne’s manager, told AllHipHop.com. "As Weezy’s manager and lifelong friend, I am excited to see Wayne’s story documented with truth and sincerity. Not only is Wayne the hottest musician in the business, but his life story reads something like a Hollywood script, enabling this film to break boundaries. And there’s no doubt this film will exceed any and all expectations. He’s a fucking rock star!”
