Lee Pui Ming

Who's Playing

BY Roman SokalPublished Jan 1, 2006

Lee Pui Ming is a Canadian performance artist that uses the piano, voice and body to unify the soul, spirit and body into a singular but multidimensional subjective alternative experience. Chaos is indeed induced through frantic injections of extreme high and low dynamics, with trills, lulls and operatic twitches that would cancel out the most extreme sufferers of Tourette's Syndrome and epilepsy. Accompanying Ming is Joane Hetu (of Sauvages Femmes), whose voice and alto sax adds the right twist to an otherwise indefinable and inexplicable musical piece of art. The closest similarity would be putting this alongside the vocal experimentations of modern composer Gyorgy Ligeti. Classical, demonic, elegant and awkward, Lee Pui Ming creates a web of haunting beauty.
