Watergate 03

BY Sarah FergusonPublished Jun 19, 2009

Konrad Black's recent release is dedicated to the admired Watergate Club in Berlin, following two prior mixes by Onur Ozer and Sascha Funke. Watergate 03 is sparse minimal tech-noise built upon fleeting moments. If you like it minimal, you will like this. At certain times a melody will flow through the low, clicky percussion that's the base of these tunes. Occasionally, like in the closing melody on "Hurt" by Matthew Dear and Seth Troxler, things happen to make the ears perk up for a clear listen. But generally, the focus of this record is to be to find the best collection of songs with next to nothing at all happening in them. Final track "Walking On The Hands That Follow Me" by Mathew Jonson is quite beautiful, taking us to a place of clear depth and emotion.
