Swiss noise metal lords Knut have been wrecking eardrums since 1994, but 18 years into their career, the group have called it quits, or at least for now. News of the sabbatical came from the outfit's Facebook page, which simply reads "Knut is in indefinite hiatus. Thank you."
Neither the band nor their label Hydra Head has weighed in on the situation any further, so reasons for the hiatus are unclear. Without sounding too optimistic, though, an interview with Exclaim! in 2010 over their then-recent disc, Wonder, had vocalist Didier Séverin explaining that the group generally work on their own schedule, not the audience's, so who's to say if the recent statement is in fact the death knell of Knut.
"Knut are free, have no agenda and come up with a new album when we feel it's ready. These periods of silence are really important for us to reenergize and replenish our inspiration," Séverin said at the time.
