Toronto rapper King Reign recently dropped by for an Exclaim! TV session, and continues to promote his latest LP Sincere with a brand new video for "Happylaidback."
The feel-good track was produced by Gameboy, adding to Reign's impressive list of collaborators that already includes Drake, Boi-1da, Raphael Saadiq, Saukrates and Kardinal Offishall.
As for the clip itself, it's a self-directed piece. It opens with eerie black and white shots of liquor, turntables and Reign himself making his way through a darkened hallway. Things pick up a bit, though, when he makes it to the studio, with the lights and colour coming back on.
"The phrase 'Happylaidback' describes my everyday personality," says Reign about the positive message behind the track. "As a Libran I strive to stay balanced. Balance equates to happiness for me. No matter how busy or stressed I am, the plan is to stay relaxed through it all. The plan is to be happy. The verses tell you that I'm still working on it. 'I'm busy like Tuesday, easy like Sunday morning'."
Sincere is available now via CLK Creative Works/Reign Music. Watch the accompanying visuals to "Happylaidback" below.
