King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard — the notoriously prolific Australian psych-rock band with a likewise notoriously long name — performed four back-to-back shows at the Caverns in rural Pelham, TN, over the weekend. On Saturday (June 3), the sextet took the stage for their third concert at the subterranean venue while donning drag to celebrate Pride Night mere hours after the state's law banning drag performances in public was ruled "unconstitutional."

The band wore frocks, sun hats, lingerie and leggings that were apparently sourced from the Bonnaroo section of a local Goodwill, as per SPIN's Jonathan Cohen. "This ain't no protest, baby. This is a celebration!" guitarist Joey Walker, who sported a particularly enviable flowy lavender number that this writer is low-key going to be taking inspiration from.

"This is the first and last time you'll ever see me onstage in shorts. Take some mental notes," keyboard player Ambrose Kenny-Smith added in between songs, including "Gila Monster" and "Converge" from upcoming album, PetroDragonic Apocalypse, as well as the live debut of a new track called "Witchcraft."

As aforementioned, hours before the King Gizz show, U.S. District Judge Thomas Parker — who was appointed by Donald Trump — ruled that Tennessee's recently passed bill banning adult cabaret performances featuring "male and female impersonators" from in public spaces where children may be present was "unconstitutionally vague and substantially overbroad." The series of legislation put into law by Governor Bill Lee also includes a bill banning gender-affirming healthcare for minors.

Many musicians have protested the legislation, including Yo La Tengo, Allison Russell, Orville Peck and the B-52s. (Not Tool, though.)
