King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard Announce "Heavy as Fuck" New Album 'PetroDragonic Apocalypse'

It's been a whole six months since King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard dropped their latest album, so naturally, it's time they announced another.

It comes with a ridiculously long title: PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation — and a fast-approaching release date: June 16 via their own label, KGLW.

The band have yet to share its tracklist or any new music from the record, but we do have some extremely rad album art by longtime collaborator Jason Galea (seen above) and a tagline via Twitter; "The next gizz album is heavy as fuck," the band wrote.

UPDATE (5/16, 1:02 p.m. ET): King Gizz have shared the record's tracklist and lead single "Gila Monster" (as well as its music video). You can see all that below.

"When we made Rats' Nest, it felt experimental," singer Stu Mackenzie shared of the record in a statement. "Like, 'Here's this music that some of us grew up on but we'd never had the guts or confidence to really play before, so let's give it a go and see what happens.' And when we made that album we were like, 'Fuck, why did it take us so long to do this?' It's just so much fun to play that music, and those songs work so well when we play them live. So we always had it in our minds to make another metal record."

PetroDragonic Apocalypse follows the release of three albums late last year — Changes, Laminated Denim and Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava — following the same year's Omnium Gatherum and Made in Timeland. Their last "heavy as fuck" album was 2019's Infest the Rats' Nest.
