Mostly known for his brand of frantic, often satirical, sample-based electro, Kid606 has made a name for himself in glitch and breakbeat circles with classic albums like Down with the Scene and PS I Love You. On his latest release, the Venezuelan producer abandons his craft in the most level-headed and un-dramatic fashion possible. Flirting with the ambient music of his past, especially on his later work, Recollected Ambient Works Vol. 1: Bored of Excitement collects seven piano-based compositions that find Kid606 straddling the line between hefty arrangements and sparse soundscapes.
Although much of the music here is rooted in minimalist piano, Kid606 can't help but layer tracks with cascading synth textures and electrical hums. Named after the key they were composed in, and sequenced alphabetically ("A Minor" to "G Minor"), much of the music focuses on sustained notes and haunted, barely-there melodies, making Recollected Ambient Works Vol. 1 therapeutic for both the artist and the listener.
