After moving from Los Angeles to Kansas City, folk singer-songwriter Kevin Morby got to work on Sundowner, an ode to middle American beauty. Ahead of the album's release on October 16, Morby has shared two new singles from the effort, "Wander" and "Don't Underestimate Midwest American Sun."

The Graham Shafer-directed video for "Wander" follows Morby's partner, Katie Crutchfield of Waxahatchee, as she plays the single on a tape deck, driving down one of Kansas's empty highways.

"'Wander' is anchored by a lyric I've had in my head for the past decade," Morby explained in a statement. "The hook 'I wonder as I wander why was I born in the wild wonder' is even featured in the insert of the first Babies LP. The song is meant to steadily gain momentum before coming to an abrupt halt. It is the shortest song I've ever written, and is intended to be played on a loop."

Meanwhile, the lyric video for "Don't Underestimate Midwest American Sun" uses raw footage shot by Morby to document a rural rail trip and horseback ride.

"'Don't Underestimate Midwest American Sun' is my favourite song off the new album," Morby added. "It was my goal to capture the vast openness of the middle American landscape sonically. To this end — there is a whole track of nothing but Texas air, birds and wind chimes living beneath the song."

Sundowner is marked for release next month through Dead Oceans, following Morby's 2019 album Oh My God.

In addition to his new singles, Morby has announced a string of upcoming virtual tour dates. Find more details here.
