It's been a couple of months since Broken Social Scene's Kevin Drew gave us his excellent single "Good Sex," and now he's shared his entire Darlings album ahead of its March 18 release via Arts & Crafts.
Unlike Brendan Canning's solo turn last year, Drew's Darlings bears some distinct similarities to his work with Broken Social Scene. The 11 songs mix cinematic wistfulness with catchy immediacy, as acoustic elements mingle with ambient textures and electronic flourishes. While songs like "It's Cool" and "My God" are quietly restrained, the urgent "Bullshit Ballad" is packed with loud guitars and pounding rhythms.
