Kesha's always had a streak of rock 'n' roll in her glitterbomb scuzz-pop (2012's Warrior included a collab with Iggy Pop), but if a recent Instagram post is anything to go by, her new music will see her taking that instinct in a slightly different direction.
Last night, Kesha posted a screenshot of a text conversation to her Instagram account, and it teases an upcoming track that interpolates an unnamed Ramones song and features a co-write from none other than Philly king Kurt Vile. Kesha and the Ramones make a certain kind of sense, but I can genuinely say I have no idea what a Kesha and Kurt collaboration might sound like. I guess time will tell!
The post in question was a screenshot of a text conversation between Kesha and (presumably) her longtime drummer Elias Mallin. Kesha's message lists out the songwriting credits for an upcoming song: "Written by Kesha Sebert, Drew Pearson, Rick Rubin, Shawn Everett, and Kurt Vile" that "Contains lyrics and melody from [REDACTED] written by the Ramones." Mallin replies, understandably, with "Omg. What!!!!"
As odd as it may sound, this collaboration doesn't actually come out of nowhere — in an interview last year with Radio Milwaukee, Vile talked about writing for Kesha during the pandemic's early days. "Flyin (like a fast train)" from last year's (watch my moves) was originally written for Kesha, so maybe check that one out if you want an inkling of the potential vibe.
