Spotify has released a featurette about the rapper's time in Ghana

Kendrick Lamar has been notably absent since releasing his album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers this spring, spending his time in Ghana rather than doing the usual publicity rounds. That's finally starting to change, as Spotify has released a featurette exploring Lamar's time in Ghana and his new album.

Much of the four-minute clip focuses on Lamar's time in Accra, the capital of Ghana, where he's evidently been spending time with youth. He also discusses Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, calling it his "most present" album.

He identified one of his favourite lines on the album: "Real n—s don't go to therapy." Lamar explained, "Our parents don't know about that; our grandparents don't know about that. You live and you experience the shit that you go through and you deal with it right then and there — or you don't never deal with it. We learn to hold all our shit in. Shit, I'm gonna keep it 100 with you: that wasn't my forte, when people mentioned it to me. I'm still stuck how my pops think: the fuck you need therapy for? To challenge myself to go to therapy — shit, that's like a whole new step in a whole new generation. It's growth."
