After postponing, then rescheduling due to coronavirus restrictions earlier this year, Guelph's Kazoo! Fest has now outright cancelled its 2020 event. The festivities, which would have marked its last-ever edition, will no longer take place this year.
Kazoo! organizers announced the cancellation today via their website, letting ticketholders know that the rescheduled fall dates would no longer happen.
They wrote:
It is with a heavy heart that we have to share the news that our rescheduled October festival dates will not be possible. Over the past few months, it has become increasingly clear that hosting an indoor multi-venue festival utilizing small venues will not be safe for the foreseeable future.
With that being said, we have some hopeful news to share. We are going to be taking a hiatus, a catnap if you will, as we plan to host the final instalment of our festival as soon as it is safe to do so. We aren't going to set a date for this last festival, maybe it's spring or summer 2021, or maybe it's later. As soon as it's safe for us to gather and share music, Kazoo! will be back.
In addition to the festival's cancellation, Kazoo! staff have also announced their plan to enter their "catnap" phase in the weeks ahead, with no communication via email, no social media activity or much else while they work on other projects and "wait until the time is right for us to gather again for one last hurrah."
Passes for this year's festival are eligible for a refund.
Previously, the fest — which had scheduled performances by Mount Eerie, Cartel Madras, Fat Tony, respectfulchild, Noah23, Sandro Perri, Cots, Bruce Peninsula and Sarah Pagé — announced that it would move its festivities to a later date. Organizers originally planned to host the fest's final edition back in April.
