Katy Goodman Reveals New Album as La Sera

Now that the Vivian Girls have officially called it a day, bassist Katy Goodman is free to focus on her other project, La Sera. Her third full-length under this banner is called Hour of the Dawn, and it will be out on May 13 through Hardly Art.

The disc was recorded in Los Angeles last summer with engineer Joel Jerome. While La Sera's past LPs have been bittersweet in tone, this one is apparently more upbeat.

"I wanted the new La Sera record to sound like Lesley Gore fronting Black Flag," Goodman said in a statement. "I didn't want it to be another record of me sad, alone in my room. I wanted to have fun playing music and writing songs with a band."

Part of the reason for the record's apparently vibrant sound is her new backing band. "We started playing faster, louder and more aggressively," Goodman offered. "I wanted to get that energy onto the album."

The album cover is above and the tracklist is below. Note that there is an intriguingly titled song called "10 Headed Goat Wizard."

A short trailer video is posted at the bottom of this page. It includes a clip of new music, but the video is only 15 seconds long, so it's only a bite-sized snippet.
