Kate Simko

Chicago, IL native Kate Simko displays her unique, innovative sound on Lights Out, her debut solo album on Hello? Repeat. Classically trained in music, Simko's diverse musical experience includes appearing on such labels as Ghostly International and Spectral Sound to collaborating with minimalist composer Philip Glass. Her multi-faceted talents come to light here, as she exudes an array of styles, from classic Chicago house to an experimental ambient field recording. Simko opens with her recognizable signature sound of hypnotic melodies with "Beneath." "Mind On You" is a superbly crafted deep vocal house track with solid building bass and soulful vocal repetition that will make you beg for more. "Bikini Atoll" is a chugging techno track that grooves along, incorporating quirky warps and crackles. Simko closes on a high note with "Had It All," a stunningly polished rhythmic groove with a dark acid-synth undertone to keep it deep and sultry. This is an exceptional first solo outing.
