Kara Keith

Kara Keith is a singer-songwriter who knows her way around a piano, but don’t glaze over just yet. Piano chanteuses may well be a dime a dozen but Keith’s ferociously compelling songwriting and brash originality prove that she has absolutely no intention of blending in. Formerly of Falconhawk, Keith is a veteran in Calgary’s music scene and this EP showcases her solo musical charms, although it’s really more of a group effort. Keith’s piano playing serves as the backbone to her Kim Deal-esque vocals and quirky arrangements that feature horns, drums, a bass guitar and a choir that sounds like it’s straight out of an elementary school, or a church pageant. The result is a decadent sampling of full-bodied indie pop that begs for a full-length sequel.
