Earlier this year, Hamilton electronic duo Junior Boys broke a long silence with a cover of Bobby Caldwell's 1978 song "What You Won't Do for Love." Thankfully, that was a mere morsel in the band's current output, as they've just announced a new album.
The release is called Big Black Coat and will arrive on February 5 — five full years since the release of their 2011 effort It's All True. The release will arrive via the band's own GEEJ imprint in Canada and City Slang everywhere else.
In a press release, the group's Jeremy Greenspan says he was reinvigorated by focusing on solo music and producing for Jessy Lanza, saying, "I could stop thinking about Junior Boys as being the thing I do and start thinking about it as a thing to do.
"That meant I could work with Junior Boys music with the same spirit as I did when it was new. It was hugely liberating and invigorating me, because I was doing things I felt really good and confident about. I was really happy with the last two Junior Boys albums, but if I look back on it, they were challenging records to make, in a way that this one absolutely wasn't."
Speaking of Lanza, the duo will bring her out on a world tour that includes Canadian stops in Vancouver and Toronto. Peep the full schedule, with Lanza on all dates, below. To get you extra excited, check out the title track from Big Black Coat at the bottom of the page.
