The Junction

'Grievances' (album stream)

BY Alex HudsonPublished Feb 27, 2012

Life has apparently been a little rough for the Junction since the release of their 2009 album Another Link in the Chain, but the Toronto trio persevered and, on March 6, will release their third album Grievances via the Junction Inc./Fontana North. Until then, you can stream the collection right here at Exclaim.ca.

The album was recorded in Montreal with producers Gus Van Go and Werner F (the Stills, Hollerado). It was made immediately following a bad breakup for frontman Brent Jackson, who has not had a fixed address since the split. A press release notes that the album is a "musical examination of universal human pathos in all its forms -- brightness and love, but also detachment and heartbreak -- a consequence of Jackson's ongoing 'quest for the real.'"

The result is a "consistent, anthemic rock" album that pairs upbeat arrangements with "the evocative sonic ambience of Radiohead." Soak up this sound by listening to the album below, and celebrate the release with the band on their brief Ontario tour.

Tour dates:

3/10 Toronto, ON - Horseshoe Tavern (CD release show)
3/24 Kingston, ON - The Mansion
3/25 St. Catharines, ON The Mansion House
3/30 Hamilton, ON - The Casbah
