Julianna Barwick offered up a few solo songs earlier this year on a 7-inch for Suicide Squeeze, but now the ambient vocal experimenter has announced she'll also serve up a whole album's worth of material this summer for her new label home, Dead Oceans. The record in question will be titled Nepenthe, and it hits retailers sometime in August.
While a tracklisting has not yet been delivered, a press release notes that the LP was recorded with producer/engineer Alex Somers (Jónsi & Alex), and includes performances from "a teenage female choir" and members of Amiina and Múm. Not too much has been revealed beyond that, but this will be the first proper solo LP from Barwick since her ethereal 2011 set The Magic Place.
Following that record, Barwick had release a collaborative LP with DNA's Ikue Mori and issued an LP with Helado Negro (aka Roberto Carlos Lange) as Ombre.
Barwick will also be playing some shows this summer, and you can see the schedule down below. Unfortunately, none of these are Canadian dates.
Tour dates:
6/18 London, UK - Meltdown Festival
7/14 Kingston, NY - BSP Lounge
9/1 North Dorset, UK - End of the Road Festival.
