Halifax's Joshua Van Tassel has been pushing his Dream Date LP for a few months now, and he keeps the promotion cycle going with a subtle and mood clip for "I Think You're a Salesman."
On the surface, the mellow number's clip merely features the steady glow of an amorphous blob. If you squint your eyes, you'll notice that the ever-evolving shape is screening some footage of kids playing in the streets.
As director/animator Arturo of Hard Science explains, "The video consists of three layers: a looped, time-lapsed video of a blooming flower; old Super8 family footage; and an animated background. The footage of the flower has been manipulated using the vector rescanning process and the Rutt-Etra effect. The Super8 video is layered into the image of the flower using Adobe Premiere, and the animated background is created with the LZX Industries modular video synth."
It might not be the craziest music video around, but as guest vocalist Kate Rogers delivers on the hook: "I'm not here to change the world, I'd just like a moment of your time."
You can peep the clip in the player down below, where you'll also find Van Tassel's upcoming Canadian dates.
