Jon Spencer Blues Explosion Announce First New Album in 8 Years, Add Canada/U.S. Dates

Last month, scuzzed-up rock'n'roll vets the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion delivered "Gadzooks" / "Tell Me That You Love Me," their first new single in their Explosion Juke Box Series in over a decade. The group are now upping the ante tune-wise with news of an impending full-length titled Meat and Bone.

The trio issue their latest full-length September 18 through Boombox/ Mom + Pop. Despite a series of reissues arriving a couple of years back, this will be the first new studio album from the troupe since 2004's Damage.

Described as "12 prime cuts of raw rock'n'roll," the album was tracked at Benton Harbor, MI's Key Club Recording Studio and mixed in New York City by Spencer, who also produced the set.

The past few rounds of reunion tours supporting the reissues had the band tackling older tracks, but it allegedly became apparent to singer-guitarist Spencer, guitarist Judah Bauer and drummer Russell Simins that they still had that magic. To paraphrase the group, it was apparent that the Blues was still number one.

"We still have that psychic glue that allows us to create music together," Spencer said in a statement. "Over the course of a year touring and writing new songs and recording, we rediscovered our shared history as a band. We circled the wagons, and went back to our roots. In a way this is almost like another first album."

You can check out Meat and Bone's tracklist, as well as a stream for album opener "Black Mold," down below.

Following some summer dates in Europe, the troupe will be back touring the U.S. and Canada. Up north, appearances this October include stops in Toronto and Vancouver.
