Today Yoko Ono is turning 86, and to help celebrate her birthday, she has announced a 50th anniversary reissue of her 1969 collaborative effort with her late Beatles husband John Lennon, Wedding Album.
The deluxe reissue will arrive on March 22 via Secretly Canadian/Chimera Music, coming 50 years after John and Yoko were married on March 20, 1969, in Gibraltar.
Wedding Album marked the couple's third collaborative full-length effort, following Unfinished Music No. 1: Two Virgins (1968) and Unfinished Music No. 2: Life with the Lions (1969).
As a press release reminds us, "In lieu of a conventional honeymoon, the newlyweds spent a week in bed at the Hilton Hotel in Amsterdam, inviting members of the press into their room for interviews and photo sessions, and using their fame — as one of the Beatles, Lennon was one of the best-known musicians in the world — and the publicity generated by their 'Bed-in' to call attention to their campaign for world peace."
It adds: "With Wedding Album, Lennon and Ono created an enduring snapshot of a vibrant pop-cultural moment, with the hostilities of the Vietnam War as its bracing backdrop."
Like with the original album, the reissue will feature Wedding Album's unique packaging, created by graphic designer John Kosh. Included the box housing the album are various souvenirs of John and Yoko's nuptials, including photographs, a copy of the couple's marriage certificate, Lennon's and Ono's own drawings of their wedding and Bed-in honeymoon event, a picture of a slice of wedding cake and more.
You can get an idea what it looks like above.
Wedding Album will arrive as a limited-edition white vinyl edition, as well as on CD and digitally. You can pre-order it here.
