Who are you? John Jacob Karwandy.

What are you up to? Presently I am teaching music lessons, finishing my first CD and restoring a few old violins.

Hometown and current HQ: Vegreville, AB.

Current fixations: Lone Wolf and Cub, acoustic punk rock and rag/blues – you know, for the old folks.

Mind altering work of art (not your own): Picasso's Blue Guitarist and the Scout by Harvey Dunn.

Most memorable/inspirational gig and why? Reverend James Cleveland and Choir in Salt Lake City. The mormans, until just a few years before this, had kept African Americans out of their faith. The air was electric and everyone, everyone was participating fully.

What should everyone shut up about? Are we all just a little to sensitive about everything? Lighten up, no one here gets out alive and you can't take it with you when you go.

Your greatest strength and weakness: Patience and confidence when I believe in something and vice versa.

Your vital daily ritual: Mid-afternoon power walk/rosary.

Guilty pleasure: Sometimes seems like all my pleasure make me guilty.

If I wasn't playing music I would be: Technical Illustrator/retired early/bum/monk.

Your most memorable day job: Waiter in a strip/burlesque club o kina classy.

Best/worst advice received: "Do it for your country, do it for your province, do it for your town, do it for your community, do it for your family, do it for your girlfriend… but never do it for yourself."

I would drop everything to play a benefit for: Padre Pio.

What makes you want to take it off and get it on? Someone who cares.

What personal trait would make you kick someone out of your band? And have you? Drug addiction (hard stuff), patronizing arrogance or theft, (yes).

When I think of Canada I think: How our dollar used to be $1.06 US and now it's only .60 cents and to boot, we're taxed like indentured slaves.

Music and sex: Is there a difference? Why? Yes, I've lived without music and I've lived without sex. But I'd rather not.

Strangest brush with celebrity: Actor Donald Sutherland gave a Fisher Price Speak and Spell to a close friend of mine (we were in the same cult together for a few years) and she gave it to my son, who later on played as a stand in guitarist for the Killjoys in Vancouver during the Edgefest tour.

What does your mom wish you were doing instead? Playing music for children/being a priest or like that.
