Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Oscar with his score for last year's The Theory of Everything. Coming off that success, he's about to release a new soundtrack, this time for Sicario.
Sicario is an action thriller directed by Quebecois filmmaker Denis Villeneuve. It stars Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin and Emily Blunt as a trio aiming to track down Mexican cartel boss. Following its premiere at Cannes this spring, it's set to arrive in Canadian theatres on September 25.
The U.S. opening is on September 18, and that's the same day that the soundtrack is slated to land in stores through Varèse Sarabande. The full album details haven't been announced yet, but Film Music Reporter points out that CDs are already up for pre-sale on Amazon.
Meanwhile, Jóhann Jóhannsson directed and scored his own short Antarctic documentary called End of Summer. It premiered last year and continues to be shown as film festivals around the world.
