Joan of Arc Prep New Album, Tour

BY Brock ThiessenPublished May 1, 2008

Twelve years into Joan of Arc’s career, the Chicago-based collective is setting up to drop their tenth album proper, the pessimistically titled Boo Human. On May 20, Polyvinyl will release this latest addition to the group’s ever-growing body of work, and the band will set out on a brief North American shortly thereafter.

And while the tour will presumably only feature the band’s five core members — Tim, Mike and Nate Kinsella, Bobby Burg and Sam Zurick — the pop-leaning Boo Human boasts a total of 14 different collaborators, some of whom have previously worked with Wilco, Iron & Wine, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Beth Orton and Prefuse 73.

The West coast-heavy tour kicks off May 28 in Omaha and wraps up June 14 in Tulsa, with only one Canadian date — Vancouver — in between. If you can make any of these dates, watch out for drummer Nate Kinsella. Not so long ago he dropped his drawers while performing with Joan of Arc affiliates, Make Believe, at a Christian rock venue — a move that eventually found him doing some hard time.
