A little geek rock for you. Boston's Jim's Big Ego can't be classified as boring by any means, because they are too eclectic a mix of catchy guitar hooks, sloppy-sounding bass lines and interesting songwriting for that. Which is good. Singer/songwriter Jim Infinito may be too cerebral, though, which is bad. Wittiness deserves a place in pop music, but when it detracts from the whole of the song, and the lyrics become just a bit too clever, things start to break down. That happens at times on this record, but not often enough to do any serious damage. There is a fair bit of uninspiring pop sentimentality, left-leaning namby-pambiness and mewling that does get to be a bit much at times.
