Jimmy Edgar Announces 'Majenta'

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Mar 8, 2012

Detroit house producer Jimmy Edgar last delivered 2010's XXX, but the performer marks his return this May with a new futuristic electro-funk LP, Majenta.

While previous releases came via Warp and !K7, the upcoming 13-song affair arrives May 8 courtesy of Hotflush Recordings. Described as "erotic robo-pop," the album marks a departure from Edgar's older work.

Speaking with XLR8R, Edgar explained that the change in tone is reflective of where he's at spiritually, saying, "I got really into hypnosis and regressions, and made galactic contact with the community."

It could also be explained by the quick turnaround on the tunes. "The album was finished within weeks, so it has that feel of spontaneity," he explains. "A lot of the ideas are based on consciousness shift. I think I will always attempt to make sexuality, love, and deepness [a part of] what I do, but [Majenta is] a departure from what I was previously known for and I will continue on this journey this year. It's a personal letter. I ripped myself open a bit more [in order] to relate to other people. It's not as selfish."
