Jesus Lizard's David Yow Gets His Own Art Exhibit

BY Keith CarmanPublished Jul 8, 2010

From onstage antics to his inimitable voice, work as a graphic designer and vaguely rumoured nuttiness, the Jesus Lizard and Scratch Acid singer David Yow has been at the forefront of modern rock's cultish heroes for many years. With his latest endeavour, however, Yow intends to put those queries about his mental state and artistic capabilities to rest once and for all.

At the DIY Gallery in Echo Beach, CA, Yow will host his debut exhibition. Dubbed SOLO: The first ever one-man exhibition of paintings, collage and digital drawings by David Yow, the showing opens on August 14, running through to September 11. It boasts a variety of media utilized to depict the artist's "personal and psychological history... From acrylic, pencil, charcoal, crayon, hair, bugs, collage and tar on wood to line drawings digitally combined with photographic textures, Yow reveals an uncommon artistic perspective."

Yow has also announced that a number of signed prints he created for an August 2010 concert featuring Queens of the Stone Age and Eagles of Death Metal will be sold DIY in order to subsidize medical bills for Eagles of Death Metal bassist Brian O'Connor, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

Those lucky enough to be in the area - or willing to make the journey - are welcome to stop by the opening gala, featuring music and drinks on August 14, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Yow will be in attendance and promises the September 11 closing will feature its own special event. SOLO is open to the public and is all-ages throughout its run.
