As one of house music's biggest names, Jesse Rose revives the genre from its slumber with his debut solo album, What Do You Do If You Don't?, and demonstrates that with a little creativity and forward thinking, house music can be a hell of a lot of fun. Produced with UK bigwig Switch, the album opens with "Forget My Name," a collaborative effort with Hot Chip and a springy homage to Rose, while "Well Now" keeps up the tempo and sends the mood ever-higher with its bouncing beat and bluesy overlay. The club hits aren't far behind, as "Pop Yer Porn," "Heavy Still" and "You're All Over My Head" run rampant with enough twisted surprises and tweaked out synths to keep the listener hooked on every note. Dance floor heavyweight "Touch My Horn," being played and remixed by the likes of Scratch Perverts and Crookers, fools with cheeky brass, glitchy synths and a stomping beat. What Do You Do If You Don't? is an album free of filler and is the perfect example of what house music should be.
