Rootsy Saskatoon singer-songwriter Jen Lane recently revealed a new single titled "Shoe," and now Exclaim! is giving you the exclusive first look at the new accompanying video.
"'Shoe' was written during a long spell on crutches in the dead of a Saskatchewan winter," explained Lane in a statement. "My husband was on tour and I was stuck at home and watching way too much Orange Is the New Black. They refer to the solitary housing unit (SHU) as the 'shoe' and I felt a little like I was in a shoe too, so I had some fun with it."
The visuals give viewers a throwback to the '50s with a polka-dotted Lane playing housewife, spinning records and waiting for a call on a rotary phone before moving through the same scenario in a couple of more modern time frames.
"We had a lot of fun shooting the themes from different eras, showing decades going by and she's still waiting, keeping herself occupied, anticipating his call," said Lane. "Then the tiny stopmotion truck tours from town to town and shows him making his way back to Saskatoon. It all reflects what the song is about."
See and hear it for yourself now. The clip arrives just before Lane heads out on a string of North American shows, and you can see all the details for those listed below. Scroll past the tour dates and hit play to check out the video premiere of "Shoe."
