Jeff Rosenstock Releases All-Ska Version of 'NO DREAM'

Of course it's called 'SKA DREAM'

BY Alex HudsonPublished Apr 20, 2021

Ska is back, baby! Punky power-pop dude Jeff Rosenstock is treating us to his SKA DREAM — a ska reworking of his 2020 album NO DREAM.

This complete re-recording was made as a fun band activity during coronavirus lockdowns. The band members live in different cities, so it was put together remotely through file-sharing. The album was produced by Jack Shirley and includes nods to "Our Time" by the Suicide Machines and "Nite Klub" by the Specials.

An announcement from the band says, "As with most things ska in my life, what started out as a fun goof with friends eventually morphed into 'Hey, what if we tried to make it good though?' All of us have a pretty deep history playing and touring the country in punk/ska bands. We all understand the stigma that comes along with ska, we've all dealt with the pitfalls of it, and we've all kept on truckin' regardless."

All of the song titles have been tweaked to allude to ska: "NO TIME" has become "NO TIME TO SKANK," "Nikes (Alt)" has become "Airwalks (Alt)," and so on.

Stream the album below. It's available to purchase on vinyl, CD or cassette on Bandcamp, along with a bunch of different SKA DREAM merch.

The album is out now through Polyvinyl.
