While Jay Malinowski and the Deadcoast have teamed up to deliver the marine-minded sailor's tale Martel, the musicians will chart a course on land when they take the tunes on tour next spring.
A press release confirms that land-lubbers across Canada will get to enjoy Malinowksi and co. in a variety of venues, with the trip starting out on the West Coast at Victoria's Lucky Bar. True, they'll have to cross the water to get to Vancouver, but the rest of the trek will have them hitting highways until the tour closer in Montreal.
You'll find the itinerary, sans maps, down below. Opening most shows will be Astral Swans, the new project helmed by Extra Happy Ghost!!!'s Matthew Swann.
As previously reported, Martel is an 18-song experience partially based upon Malinowski's family, as documented in a series of letter written from the perspective of his grandfather. Both family history and his grandfather's travels as a sailor influenced the set.
"The premise of these letters, and the album Martel, have been based on my family history on my mother's side, specifically the maps and family records left behind by my Grandfather," Malinowski previously explained in a statement. "He was a man who truly loved Cape Breton and told us stories of his life there in Mira Gut whenever there was a chance. I believe growing up on an ocean has a deep affect on a person. I grew up on the Pacific, and so from there I started exploring my fascination with the ocean, and put my music, letters, and drawings into the perspective of our shared love for the Atlantic and Pacific."
Malinowski is unveiling a series of videos and other assorted digital ephemera on his new website, while Martel officially hits stores February 11 through Pirates Blend/Sony.
