Wouldn't you know it. Just as a band is about to whiff the sweet smell of success, they're struck with a debilitating illness that cancels all immediate plans. Fresh off a promising week that began with gracing the cover of the May issue of Exclaim! and a "Best New Music" review from Pitchfork, Vancouver power duo Japandroids have had to call off a number of tour dates. The reason? Well, it's a painful one: guitarist/vocalist Brian King needed emergency surgery for a perforated ulcer (which we hear is like your stomach trying to eat itself, ouch!). Yes, that is Brian below. You can tell he's more disappointed than anybody.
But there is plenty of good news. Brian and drummer/vocalist David Prowse will be fit and ready to go on May 20 in Victoria, BC, which will kick off an extensive tour that takes them to the end of July. All tickets will be honoured for their upcoming shows in Toronto and New York and refunds are available if necessary. Not all venues have been finalized, but once they are we'll certainly do a recap.
In the meantime, go to your local music record shop or digital retailer and pick up the band's new album, Post-Nothing, which was released just yesterday (April 28) by Unfamiliar Records. Remember, it's a vinyl and digital release only, so if need be, pick it up here.
