Former White Stripes leader Jack White spent 2012 focused on his solo work, but he's evidently resumed work with his garage rock supergroup the Dead Weather, since they've been recording new material.
This morning (August 29), Third Man Records tweeted a new press photo of the four-piece, which also features singer Alison Mosshart (the Kills), bassist Jack Lawrence (the Raconteurs, the Greenhornes) and multi-instrumentalist Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age). According to the post, the band were working on new songs in the studio yesterday (presumably Third Man's in-house studio).
This doesn't come as a complete surprise, since White has previously said that he has new material in the works with his various projects. Earlier this year, he told Rolling Stone that he had recorded some material with the Dead Weather and hinted that the Raconteurs had also been working together. He also had "20 or 25" of his own tracks in the works.
There's currently no schedule as to when the Dead Weather's new recordings will arrive, but White is known for working fast, so a new album is likely to arrive sooner rather than later. When it does, it will be the band's third LP and their first since 2010's Sea of Cowards.
Meanwhile, Jack White is embroiled in court drama with his ex-wife Karen Elson, having recently been slapped with a restraining order.
