Jack Moves is a mad scientist behind the RC-505; he uses the looper to record and layer his voice, resulting in original tracks, medleys and remixes of well-known tunes. The Toronto-based artist experiments with new sounds every week and presents his results on YouTube, which have included covers of Drake, Disturbed, Kendrick Lamar and even Celine Dion. However, this insanity is best experienced live; Jack Moves' next performance will be in Toronto on September 19, and he shows you what to expect on this episode of Exclaim! TV.
In this session, Jack Moves conjures a five-song medley of full-scale compositions by renowned artists. He begins by laying down bass-y beatboxing for a resurrection of OutKast's "Rosa Parks" before transitioning seamlessly into Aaliyah's "Try Again." He then ambitiously jumps into an arrangement of DMX's party anthem, "Party Up (Up In Here)," followed by the Talking Heads' classic "Psycho Killer." After the impressive execution of these huge radio hits, he shakes things up with a quick tribute to Bobby Pickett. Watch below to see how Jack Moves fuses the "Monster Mash," too, into his medley.
