J. Cole has firmed up a release date for long-awaited new album The Off-Season. Marking his first full-length effort since 2018's KOD, his latest will arrive May 14.

The artist shared the news on Twitter alongside the album art seen above, which finds him facing away from a flaming basketball hoop. Cole added in delivering the May 14 release date, "Just know this was years in the making."
Cole had previously teased The Off-Season on Instagram last December, sharing a rough outline of his "Fall Off Era" that included plans for feature appearances, Dreamville label comp Revenge of the Dreamers III, the newly announced Off-Season and another effort titled It's a Boy — all of which appear to culminate with The Fall Off, a project he has been teasing since 2018.

That Instagram post also saw Cole hint at potential retirement, writing in the caption, "I still got some goals I gotta check off for' I scram..."

Last July, Cole shared singles "The Climb Back" and "Lion King on Ice" — both of which are expected to appear on The Fall Off. Those arrived after "Snow on Tha Bluff," for which he was promptly buried by Noname.
