iPod's Ruling Days Numbered: Apple Co-Founder

BY Shane SinnottPublished Oct 8, 2008

That other founder of Apple that you never hear about, Steve Wozniak, has told the Daily Telegraph that he thinks the iPod’s days as the pre-eminent portable music player may soon be over.

"The iPod has sort of lived a long life at number one,” he said, "Things like that, if you look back to transistor radios and Walkmans, they kind of die out after a while.”

He continued: "It's kind of like everyone has got one or two or three. You get to a point when they are on display everywhere, they get real cheap and they are not selling as much."

While most readers will probably vouch for the fact that the little mofos are everywhere, and certainly not that special anymore — remember how you were always excited to borrow your friend’s in 2002? — it’s hard not to think Wozniak’s being too literal. Sure, the iPod might disappear but I’ll bet you dollars to donuts whatever replaces it is made by Apple as well. What else are you gonna do? Buy a Zune?
