If you're hankering for some accordion music but "Weird Al" Yankovic is way too goofy for your tastes, then you're in luck: Winnipeg roots songstress Ingrid Gatin is getting ready to release a new album and will be spreading the word by taking her accordion on a Canadian tour.
The new disc is entitled Time Will Change Us, and it's the first half of a two-part mini-album. It was recorded in a cabin near Manitoba's Lake Minnedosa, and was produced by Lorrie Matheson (Rae Spoon, Ghostkeeper) and mixed by Matthew Tomlinson.
According to a press release, "The recording features harmony filled soul tracks, accordion tangos and slow ballads with the haunting harmonics of an upright bass."
Of the sessions, Gatin said, "We spent nights singing into one microphone in the middle of the room for the perfect a cappella vocals. And we recorded accordion in the kitchen, violin in the stairwell and drums where the couches should be, often playing at the same time. We had to have the spirit to make it shine."
The album will come out in July via Pipe & Hat. Before it drops, Gatin will tour Canada with Demetra Penner. The outing will begin in Winnipeg on April 30 and wrap up on the Atlantic coast in June. See the schedule below.
