Iggy Pop

"American Valhalla" (video)

Iggy Pop delivered a mighty blow this year when he released his much-touted Post Pop Depression. Fittingly, the punk icon has now turned out some pugilism-minded visuals for one of the record's standout tracks, "American Valhalla."

Scored by the marimba-manned slink of the album track, the video mashes together a few different scenes. Above a larger shot of model Ruth Bell seated on a stool, we find a smaller screen scrolling images of a vintage boxing match, as well as the sight of Pop singing his song.

"I love Iggy Pop and I'm a huge boxing fan," video director Jamie-James Medina told Nowness. "I was listening to 'American Valhalla' and was reminded of this very low-key but classic fight between Dick Tiger and Gene Fullmer, which took place in Nigeria in 1963 and for whatever reason I found a connection there."
