Back in November, electronic producer i_o passed away at the age of 30. Now, the coroner's report has confirmed that the artist born Garrett Lockhart died of natural causes stemming from Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
Hashimoto's thyroiditis is also known as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, and it's an autoimmune disorder affecting the thyroid gland. It can lead to an underactive thyroid.
In a statement to EDM.com, Lockhart's family confirmed that the producer had died of a "sudden and fatal arrhythmia."
The statement reads as follows:
After 5 months of testing, the conclusion is that, while Garrett did suffer from depression and anxiety, he did not take his own life. It is our hope that Garrett's premature death can be used to create and normalize conversations surrounding mental health issues, realizing there may be underlying disease of conditions requiring medical attention.
i_o released music through deadmau5's Mau5trap label and collaborated with Grimes on the Miss Anthropocene song "Violence."
